Who Needs Financial Planning? The Answer is Everyone

I meet with a fair number of potential clients who have never worked with a financial advisor, planner, or coach before. As a result, I spend a fair amount of time discussing what a financial plan is and if they need one.

What is a Financial Plan?

  • According to the Certified Financial Planner's Organization: Financial planning involves looking at a client's entire financial picture and advising them on how to achieve their short- and long-term financial goals. This process should include the following seven steps:

  • According to Walk You To Wealth: It's a roadmap to wealth! This roadmap meets you where you are and without judgement. It's also not designed to be perfect, but rather to be practical, actionable, and to encourage real progress.

Who Needs a Financial Plan?

In short, everyone! The reason I feel that everyone needs a financial plan is that regardless of where you are financially, at the very top or starting from the bottom, you likely have at least one area (spending, investing, insurance, etc.) that can be improved through a dedicated plan. Historically, the industry has only served those who could meet various asset minimums. In other words, you needed a certain amount of money before you could even meet with a financial planner; however, Walk You To Wealth changes that!

In summary, when you're sick you go to the doctor, but you should also should visit for your annual physical to make sure everything is alright.

Operation meme of being your own financial advisors

This is the same concept with financial planning. You want a long-term relationship with someone who can help when there are significant bumps in the road and also keep you on track when everything is running pretty smoothly.
